The State of Geneva will cover the cost of Youth (-100%) and AVS/AI (-50% ) travel passes, from January 1st 2025.
The Canton of Geneva offers young students up to the age of 24 an annual or monthly Unireso pass, subject to certain conditions regarding education and income. It has also decided to cover 50% of the cost of annual or monthly passes for OASI/DI pensioners living in the canton of Geneva.
Implementation on January 1, 2025
This changeover will be implemented on January 1, 2025. In the meantime, people who need to renew their unireso travel pass can purchase their annual travel pass with complete peace of mind. The amount corresponding to the period between the State of Geneva's decision to cover the cost and the end of validity of your subscription will be reimbursed on a pro rata temporis basis.
Important information
People who have already received a letter from the State of Geneva containing a discount code will be able to benefit from an unireso travel pass from January 1, 2025. They will be able to purchase this pass on tpg.shop from January 1, 2025 only. No sales of travel passes covered by the State will be possible before this date. Thank you for your understanding.
An appeal has been lodged against the State of Geneva decision to finance unireso travel passes for youth and OASI/DI. As the suspensive effect of this appeal has not been granted by the Court of Justice, work on preparing for the law's entry into force on January 1, 2025 has been restarted. However, the government funding on January 1, 2025, and the prorata reimbursement of of travel passes purchased in 2024, remain dependent on the final decision of the Court of Justice.

Travel passes covered :
The reduction of CHF 400 for eligible young people and CHF 200 for those receiving AVS/AI benefits may be applied to the following travel passes:
- unireso zone 10 annual travel pass ;
- LémanPass annual multi-zone travel pass including zone 10 ;
- LémanPass annual travel passes for route + zone 10 ;
- modular travel passes for route + zone 10 ;
Création de la carte SwissPass
Pour bénéficier de la prise en charge totale ou partielle de son abonnement unireso, il est nécessaire de posséder une carte SwissPass.
Tous les abonnements de transports publics sont activés sur une carte SwissPass. Nous recommandons donc à toutes les personnes qui n'en possèdent pas encore une de commander une carte SwissPass.
Pour créer un compte et commander une carte SwissPass en son nom ou celui de son enfant, la démarche est gratuite. Il est nécessaire de se connecter sur swisspass.ch.
Une pièce d’identité en cours de validité est nécessaire.
Les enfants mineurs doivent obligatoirement avoir une carte SwissPass à leur nom. Dans le cas où l’enfant ne dispose pas d’une adresse e-mail, le parent peut indiquer la sienne lors de l’enregistrement.
Beneficiaries
From January 1, 2025, young people and people receiving OASI/DI benefits who meet the following conditions will be reimbursed 100% or 50% of their annual or monthly unireso zone 10 travel pass for public transport (bus, trolleybus, train, tramway and mouettes genevoises)
- Young people under 18 living in the canton of Geneva: 100% contribution
- Young people aged 18 to 24 in training and living in the canton of Geneva: 100% contribution
- Young people aged 18 to 24 included, on low incomes (-50'000 CHF/year) and resident in the canton of Geneva: 100% contribution
- Young people between the ages of 6 and 24, included, in training in Geneva and living outside the canton of Geneva: 100% contribution.
- AVS pensioners living in the canton of Geneva: 50% contribution.
- DI beneficiaries residing in the canton of Geneva: 50% contribution.
For children under 6 years old, transport remains free (no travel pass required)
The procedures and documents required to prove entitlement to full or partial reimbursement of the public transport travel pass will be specified during the autumn.
Obligation to travel with a valid transport ticket
It's important to remember that anyone travelling by public transport must have a valid ticket, even if they benefit from a total or partial reimbursement of the cost of their season ticket. Travelling without a valid ticket is liable to a fine in the event of a check by transport company officials, even if the person checked is eligible for the State of Geneva's reimbursement program.
Since August 1, 2015, travel passes for public transport are activated on a SwissPass card, regardless of the operator. We now invite all those who do not yet have a public transport travel pass to open a SwissPass account on the tpg webshop or in one of our 3 agencies: Cornavin, Rive and Lancy Pont Rouge.
Modalités de remboursement
Pour les clients avec un abonnement unireso émis en 2024 et en cours de validité en 2025 :
Le processus de remboursement sera précisé ici, début janvier 2025.
Le montant du remboursement est calculé au prorata pour la période du 1er janvier 2025 jusqu’à l’échéance de l’abonnement. Par exemple, si l’abonnement est valide du 1er juin 2024 au 31 mai 2025, la part remboursée s’applique sur la période du 1er janvier 2025 au 31 mai 2025.
Pour les clients dont la prise en charge est validée, une fois le processus de remboursement disponible, la demande pourra être faite tout au long de l’année 2025.
L’abonnement reste valable jusqu’à son dernier jour de validité. Il est possible de le renouveler à échéance en bénéficiant de la prise en charge et de procéder à son renouvellement quelques semaines avant son échéance courant 2025 (à partir de 2 mois avant sa date d'échéance).
