A little history
The territory of the current sector of Eaux-Vives has been conquered little by little from the marshes. In the Middle Ages, it was called the suburb of the Temple.
In 1836-1838, the port of La Scie was built, the first large port outside the walls of Geneva. The lakefront became a lively commercial wharf. In 1862, the Mont-Blanc bridge was built to link Eaux-Vives to Pâquis by road.
Until 1930, Eaux-Vives was an independent municipality. The vote on the "Greater Geneva" involved the merger of the municipalities of Geneva, Eaux-Vives, Plainpalais and Petit-Saconnex.
