Slight changes to tpg’s offer in 2021
As of February 22, tpg is slightly adapting its network to respond to the drop in ridership due to the health crisis. The changes, which are targeted and temporary, are mostly aimed at low-traffic hours and geographic areas heavily impacted by the coronavirus crisis.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on Geneva public transport. Despite a large drop in the number of passengers on our network, tpg has worked with cantonal authorities to continue providing quality transport services adapted to both passenger needs and changes in demand. On February 22, a few changes were made. Most of them concern low traffic hours (weekends and evenings) as well as geographical sectors strongly impacted by the coronavirus crisis, such as Geneva Airport, where passenger traffic dropped by nearly 70% in 2020.
A quick overview of what's new on the network
Line-by-line changes in detail
Lines 1 to 25
Longer intervals on Sundays before 9:00 a.m. and after 9:00 p.m. on the following routes:
1 2 3 56 7 9 10 11 12 14 15 18 19 21 25 |
Reason for the change: over the whole week, public transport use is generally lowest on Sunday mornings and evenings. As a result, service is slightly reduced on most urban routes in these time slots.
Line #5+#
Suspension of the line.
Reason for the change: as the F line is now running every 6 minutes during peak hours between Geneva and the international organizations, compared to 10 minutes in 2018 and 7.5 minutes in 2019 and with stable ridership on Malagnou (currently reduced due to the sanitary measures), the #5+# express line no longer plays the supporting role it was meant to offer to these two routes.
Info: Ridership on Lines 5 and 25 will be monitored. Eventually a back-up may be added if necessary.
Line 10
Reduced offer on weekends and during school vacations.
Reason for the change: Drop in demand for Geneva Airport.
Info: In return, use of bi-articulated vehicles will be maximized during these periods.
Line 22
Line extended from Nations to Jardin Botanique
Reason for the change: Meant to maintain a link between the international organizations and the Geneva-Sécheron train station, replacing Line 28
Line 28
The line route is limited to its busiest part, Les Esserts to Genève-Aéroport-Terminal
Reason for the change: Decrease in the number of visitors for international organizations and the airport.
Line 56
Frequency reduced to 30 minutes
Reason for the change: The new offer targets the busiest routes, in connection with the arrival or departure of mainline trains at Geneva Airport.
Info: Lines 56 and 57 (not affected) are no longer synchronized.
