A bit of history
Carouge was built in the eighteenth century by order of the King of Sardinia Victor Amadeus III, to compete with Geneva.
From the Roman era to the industrial era, through the Middle Ages, Carouge knew how to transform and reinvent itself. Alternately French, Italian or under the tutelage of Geneva, it has always retained its status as an "open city".
The Sardinian City became the capital of the Mont Blanc Department and joined, following the decision of the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the 36 United Municipalities attached to the Canton of Geneva.
